TRANSCRIBED OBIT (by Patti Yourko Burns) for Horry County Historical Society:
Horry Weekly News August 18, 1871
On the 13th instant, at his residence in this County, Rev. John H. Beaty, in the 78th year of his age.
Of him whose death is recorded above, and whose history should be "leaded in the rock," that it might be Refuge, "Rock of Ages," we would gladly have others write, yet, in accordance with his teachings, following the example of his Master, we must not shrink from the duty before us. He who was the oldest of three brothers, and the last of them to depart this life (being but few of the generation in which he was born) has passed away, and gone where "the weary are at rest and the wicked cease to trouble."
For more than forty years, the deceased was an Official member of the M. E. Church, and the last twenty seven, years of his life was spent in the earnest, humble, zealous labor in the (illegible) God's word in that Church which he was a member.
A Humble Christian; a true (illegible) Savior who redeemed (illegible) minister and herald of ( illegible.)
NOTE: There were large holes in the newspaper prior being put on microfilm making parts of this obituary illegible. pmb
