THANKS TO Little Marie for the following information:

I found Basil's obit in a Baltimore paper dated Oct 1903. It said that he was in Maryland studying his Brashear ancestors and that he died of Ptomaine (spelling is wrong) poisoning at a hotel where he was staying and that his remains were taken to the Loudon Cemetery where he was cremated because shortly before he died he expressed the wish to be cremated. I guess his ashes were shipped to Ohio.

It should be noted here that Dr. Brashear, like so many others, inlisted in the Civil War at the middle age of 39. Ofcorse, there is no records of how many wounded passed before him, but I have no dought that many soldiers owed their lives to this man.
