OBITUARY Alliance Times Herald, July 16, 1996
Mildred Elizabeth (Worley) Jinks, longtime resident of Alliance, died at her home, 424 Cheyenne, July 14, 1996. Mrs. Jinks was a prominent business woman in Alliance, active community leader, and loving parent of five, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of two. Mildred Worley was born Oct. 16, 1918 to Edith Wright & Ralph Worley. She grew up on a ranch west of Alliance, attended Alliance Public Schools, and graduated in 1936. She married Wilbert G. Jinks in Stapleton, Ne on Sept. 2, 1938. They lived briefly in North Platte and Scottsbluff. In Alliance "Red" and "Millie" operated the Jinx Diner and Chimneytown Grocery. For a short time she was an interior decorator for a local paint and decor business (Marker Paints). In 1954, her husband became the head of terminal operations for WNX Freight Systems and she became the office manager. They worked together until his death in 1975, and she continued to work for WNX Systems until its dissolution. She then became the office manager for NTC Freight Systems until her retirement in 1988, accumulating over 33 years in the trucking industry.
Mildred was very active in her church, the United Methodist, as well as other organizations. She was the past president of the United Methodist Women, past member of the Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board, and Christian Women United of Alliance. She was a member of Aloyah Chapter #185 of Eastern Star, the BPO DOES #144, and served on the executive board of the Bethel Guardian Council of the Alliance Jobs Daughters. She served the community through her efforts within organizations such as P.T.A., 4-H, Camp Fire, Y-Teens, and Business & Professional Women. A proud and loving parent, Mildred is survived by a son & 3 daughters; 2 granddaughters and 6 grandsons. She is also survived by her brother, Glen Worley of Alliance. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Dorothy Hodwalker. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dick Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Thursday, and at the Church. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be considered to the Pipe Organ Fund at the United Methodist Church, Camp Norwesca, or the Alliance Hospice Care Unit.
