OBITUARY: ALLIANCE TIMES HERALD JANUARY 27, 1969
RALPH WORLEY, 85, A PIONEER OF AREA, DIES
Funeral services for a pioneer resident of Box Butte County, Ralph M. Worley, 85, were held at the Christian Church this afternoon with the Rev. William Denton officiating. Mr. Worley died at St. Joseph's Hospital Saturday after a short illness. He was born in Pottawattamie County, IA., Dec. 16, 1883. His father, the late Nels Worley, homesteaded 10 miles west of Alliance on Snake Creek in 1886. Mr. Worley started school in a sod house near his ranch home. He attended high school in Alliance and was a member of the school's first football team. Only survivors now of the team are J.D. Emerick and Elmer Engelhorn, of Alliance. He was married to the daughter of a neighboring homesteader, Edith Wright, on January 19, 1905. They operated a ranch west of Alliance until retirement and celebrated their golden anniversay in 1955. Mrs. Worley died in 1963. He is survived by a son, Glen, of Alliance; two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Dorothy) Hodwalker, Longview, Wash. and Mrs. Wilbert (Mildred) Jinks, Alliance; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Harvey, of Hemingford. The Bates-Landa Funeral Home was in charge.
