H.R. Tietjen - Former Sevier Leader Passes

Monroe - H Roland Tietjen , 84, former state legislature and banker in Sevier County, died Feb 13 in a Provo hospital of natural causes.

He was cashier and executive vice president of the Monroe State Bank for 34 years until his retirement.

He was born May 21, 1891 in Santaquin to Ephraim Henry and Elizabeth Euzella Holladay Tietjen. He married Genevieve Willardson Aug 18 1915, Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He attended Brgiham Young University and graduated in 1915. In 1923 he became cashier of Monroe State Bank and then was executive vice president for 23 years.

He was a charter member of the Monroe Lions Club and in 1958 he was elected and served three terms as a member of Utah Legislature.

As a young man he served in the California LDS Mission. He later served as Presidnet of South Sevier Stake and stake patriarch. He also served as patriarch for the Oahu and BYU Sixth Stake for the BYU Language Training Mission. From 1959 to 1963, he served as president of the Hawaii LDS Temple. Previously he and his wife served in the bureau of information at that temple.

He had been a resident of Provo since 1963.

Survivors are his wife of Provo; daughters Mrs. Francis L (Bernell) Simpson and Mrs. Briant S (Barbara) Jacob, both of Provo, son Melvin F, Phoenix; 14 grandchildren and 11 great granchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday Provo Fifth LDS Ward chapel with Bishop Dean C Christensen, conducting. Speakers wer Rulon Rasmussen, Wayne B Hales, Elder Mark e Peterson of Council of Twelve Apostles and Bishop Christensen.

Burial was in the Santaquin Cemetery by Berg Mortuary.
