Methodist minister, married Hattie Follet November 10, 1885

Funeral services for the Rev. Frank H. McNamer, one of Batavia ’s most beloved citizens and former pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, were held last Friday afternoon at the Methodist Church . Rev. McNamer died suddenly at his home on Tuesday evening, December 30th. Services were in charge of the Rev. C.A. Hull, and the district superintendent, Dr. J.B. Marzin of Riverside , Illinois . Soloists were Dr. and Mrs. G.O. Kerfoot and Edward Elbert of Evanston . Pall bearers were H.W. McCoy, A.B. Prindle, M.M. Osnick, Henry Kahlke, Louis R. Hill and Harold R. Sweet.
The remains were sent to South Elkhorn , Illinois the scene of Rev. McNamer’s boyhood for burial and services were held there Saturday.
Rev. McNamer had lived in Batavia for the past five years, coming to Batavia following his retirement from an active pastorate. He served here as Pastor of the First M.E. Church about twelve years ago. On his retirement he purchased a home at 175 First Street .
Rev. McNamer was born on the McNamer farm near South Elkhorn on June 18, 1860. He was educated in the schools near his home, later attending Normal College at Normal , Illinois and then taught school for a time. He entered Garrett Bible Institute in Evanston and graduated in 1887. For forty one years, Rev. McNamer held pastorates in the Rock River Conference, serving the following churches during that time: Creston, Dundee, Woodstock , Rockford , Lena, Plano , Antioch , Prophetstown, Walnut, Batavia and Fernwood in Chicago .
Mr. McNamer was much sought as a speaker, and gave generously of his time and energy in filling speaking engagements in this city. Having lived his entire life in this part of Illinois, he told most interestingly of the early days of Northern Illinois, and of the problems that confronted the pioneer of an earlier day. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity for a number of years, having affiliated with the Blue Lodge and the Royal Arch Chapter. He transferred his membership to Batavia Lodge when he came here following his retirement and was a member of the Batavia Low Twelve Club.
Rev. McNamer was interested in the Boy Scout movement and earned the title of Eagle Scout a number of years ago. He visited all of the local troops and gave inspirational talks on the value of scouting. He held the position of Deputy Scout Commissioner in the Fox Valley Council at the time of his death. Members iof the local scout troops acted as an escort Friday afternoon when the casket was born from the church to the Hollister Funeral Home following the services.
Rev. McNamer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Follett McNamer, to whom he was married while at Creston , Illinois , two sons, Harry of Louisville, Bruce of Shelby, Montana, and one daughter Margot of this city. (From the Batavia News, 1/2/1931)
