Note that in Charles L. Albertson's book, History of Waverly, N.Y. and vicinity published in 1943 and co-wrote by Amasa's daughter Mary E. Finch, Amasa's birth date is noted as May 5, 1836. Here, we show numerous period articles showing a birth date of May 6, 1836. Because of that overwhelming evidence, the birth date shown here is May 6, 1836.

FINCH - Waverly, NY, June 21, 1916 - Amasa Finch, a highly respected citizen and the oldest native born resident of Waverly, died at his home on Cayuta avenue, Monday evening at 7 o'clock. He was born on upper Cayuta avenue, May 6, 1836, the son of Philip and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Finch and grandson of Seely Finch who came to this locality before 1800 and was one of its first surveyors. Mr. Finch was a member of the Board of Education ten years, served as village president one year, was a member of the Excise Commission three years and was also a member of the Republican County Committee for several terms. In the death of Mr. Finch, Waverly loses one of its most honorable and upright citizens. He is survived by his widow, who was Elizabeth Sawyer, a native of Orange county; one daughter, Miss Mary Finch and one brother, Wilbur Finch. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. - Middletown Times Press [Middletown, NY], June 21, 1916

Waverly, May 7th 1888 - The board of Excise, consisting of G. S. WILCOX, Amasa FINCH, and M. QUIGLEY, with G. H. GRAFFT as clerk, meet at Justice GRAFFT'S office this morning and granted the following licenses for Waverly. Hotels:
