Aloysius "Al" Swan, 83, of Toppenish died at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 19, 2006. Washat services will be at 6p. m. today at Colonial Funeral Home. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in White Swan. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in White Swan.
He was born on July 4, 1922, in Fort Belknap to John and Mary (Gardipee) Swan. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He worked for the railroad in Montana before moving to the Yakima Valley in 1988. Al was a member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed carving and making birds and animals out of wood, shells, etc., gardening and recalling family history in Timber Ridge. He participated in veteran activities throughout the northwest. He also enjoyed visiting with fellow veterans and friends at Wanity Park.
Al was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter; three brothers; one sister; and three nephews, Tracy W., Willie and Timothy Swan. Survivors include his brother, Earl Swan of Wapato; seven nephews, John (Ellen) Swan, N. Thomas (Anita) Swan, Nicholas (Vicki) Swan, Vaughn Paul Swan, all of White Swan, Wash., Gabriel (Tammy) Swan of Harrah, Wash., Alwayne LaRocque of Hays and George Duncan of Spokane, Wash.; nieces, Jone Swan of Wapato, Laura Mae Duncan of Medford, Ore., Jackie Gibbs of Plummer, Idaho, and Georgianne (Curtis) Doney of Hays; and two grandsons.
