WINNFIELD, LA -- Funeral services for Mrs. Violet Gates will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in the Winnfield City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gates, 89, of Winnfield, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998 at Winn Parish Medical Center. Mrs. Gates was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Keen Age Choir and a Sunday School teacher. She was a Winn Parish Elementary School teacher for 30 years. She was a member of Palestine Chapter #55 Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Sigma Sigma Sigma.
Mrs. Gates is survived by one son, Carroll Gates of Marietta, GA; one sister and brother-in-law, June Sowers Green and Leonard Green; two grandchildren, Frederick B. Gates of Loganville, GA and Leslie G. Bofill of Coral Springs, FL.
Friends may call in the funeral home Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until shortly before time of services.
