Iris June Bruning, 77 Years, 9 Months, 7 Days, formerly of Belknap Township, died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at the Tendercare Health Center in Rogers City.

She was the daughter of Charles and Frances (Thompson) Derry and was born May 29, 1914 (sic, this should be 1924) in Rogers City. She graduated in 1941 from Rogers City High School.

On July 5, 1941, she and Arlo "Sam" Bruning were married in Angola, Indiana, and they lived in Rogers City for several years until moving to Pontiac where they resided for five years. They returned to the area and later owned a farm in Belknap Township where they lived for 32 years. Her husband preceded her in death on May 5, 1993.

She was a member of St Ignatius Catholic Church in Rogers City, and also an elder of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of the Chippewa Indians.

She is survived by

Friends may call after 2 P.M. Friday at the Bill Brietzke Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 P.M. At 9 A.M. Saturday she will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Church for visitation until the funeral mass at 10 A.M. with the Rev. Charles Donajkowski officiating.

Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St Ignatius Catholic Church or a charity of friend's choice.
