Marjorie P. (Barrett) Sowders, 89, of Franklin, passed from this life at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Franklin United Metho­dist Community.

She was born March 1, 1922, in Bedford, to the late Merle Barrett and Stella (Wisely) Grubb.

Mrs. Sowders worked for Arvin Industries in Greenwood for 35 years. She attended school in Harrodsburg. She enjoyed cooking, attending church and time shared with her family.

She leaves behind her family of three daughters, Donna (Kenton) Raysin, Janet (Carl) Knox and A. Renee (Bill) Hardwick, all of Martinsville; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Sowders of Martinsville; two sisters, Wilma Crites of Scottsburg and Stella June Prince of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Glen Barrett of Harrodsburg and Arthur Barrett of Lawrence County; nine grandchildren, Aaron Sowders, Jennifer Heady, Scott, Wesley, Chris and Josh Knox, Leigh Ann Harmon, and Michelle and Ashley Hardwick; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She married Ethil Ray Sowders on Dec. 24, 1938; he preceded her in passing Oct. 16, 1964.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Ray Sowders; two sisters, Eula Barrett and Louise Kern; and two brothers, Fred Grubb and Ralph Barrett.

The Rev. Josh Knox will officiate at a service celebrating her life at 11 a.m. Friday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Crem­ation Center, 110 E. Poston Road, Martinsville. Friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington.
