Susie Lightsey, 92 of Jonesboro, died March 14 at her residence. Funereal services were held March 16 at Jonesboro Baptist Church with burial at Jonesboro Cemetery.

Mrs. Lightsey was born March 7, 1908 in Deer Lodge, Montana, the daughter of Joseph and Susie Gault Quesenberry. The family moved to Texas when Mrs. Lightsey was eight and settled near Salado.

She attended school in Amity and Belton, graduating from Belton High School.

She married Truett Lightsey on Sept. 6, 1930 at Belton. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1967. They lived in Turnersville, Pidcoke and Jonesboro.

Mrs. Lightsey was a homemaker who enjoyed children and her neighbors and had a strong Christian faith.

She was involved in Jonesboro school during the 24 years her children attended there. She enjoyed canning and the outdoors. She was a long-time member of Jonesboro Baptist Church.

An infant daughter preceded her in death in 1952.


Survivors include her son Joe Lightsey and wife Flo; her daughters, Melva Lightsey, Paula Foote and husband Sonny, Suzanne Lightsey; her grandchildren, Than, Traci and Joe Foote, Ronnie Gail and Jeff Miller, Connie and Gary Woodson, Mark Lightsey; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rachel Northen of Calif, Claribel Peteete and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Than Foote, Joe Foote, Ronnie Miller, Jeff Miller, Sonny Berry, Walter Johnson, Clifford Johnson, David White, Phillip White, Park Peteete.

Memorials may be given to Jonesboro Baptist Church or Jonesboro Cemetery Association.
