Rachel Elizabeth Quesenberry was the daughter of Joseph Henry Quesenberry and Susan Ann Gault. She was the sixth child of eleven. Her name is most likely taken from her maternal grandmother, Rachel Burdett, who probably got her own name from her maternal grandmother, Rachel Burleson.

Rachel was born in Montana but grew up in central Texas, working with her parents and siblings. In the early 1930s, she married Homer Knight Northen, and had three children with him. They lived in many places in Texas before moving to California in 1948. There she kept her three boys well kept and loved, and supported her husband as best she could. When one of her grandchildren was born with brain damage, she took the girl into her home and cared for her, just as if she was her own child.

Rachel always had a passion and natural talent to caring for others. She helped mentally disabled children in California, also treating them as her own. She helped care for her mother in law when she was close to death. When her siblings got older she, even in her own advanced age, would travel to Texas to take care of them.

I have been told by every single family member who knew her that she was one of the sweetest people to ever meet, that she never said negative things about anyone, always did what she could to help, and always showed love and devotion to anyone who needed it.

I hope anyone researching the Quesenberry or Northen family will see this and know it is true how amazing of a person Rachel Elizabeth Quesenberry Northen was.
