George retired from American Cyanamid, served in the C.C.C.'s and was a lifetime member of International Association of Machinist. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathryn Eason Sikes, and two brothers, Ellis Sikes and Bobby Sikes, and one sister, Roberta Jernigan.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Rea Sikes of Claxton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald George Sikes and wife, Lee of Claxton, Gary Lee Sikes and wife, Sherry of Greenville, SC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kitty and Darwin Lewis of Townsville, SC, and Jill and Gene Poythress of Claxton; one brother, Harold Sikes of Savannah; five sisters, Aletha Bacon of Glennville, Mary Edith Bland of Richmond Hill, Nell Surrency of Claxton, Lynette Thompson of Richmond, TX, and Alene Moore of Claxton; fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday, June 24, 6:00 p.m. until, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton.
Funeral: Saturday, June 25, 11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial: Eason Family Cemetery.
