J.J. Gray, a civil war veteran, who formerly lived in 560 West Sawyer, died at 6 o'clock Monday evening in the Old Soldier's home in Danville. He was 75 years old. Death was caused by the infirmities of old age. He had been in the home only two months. The body will be brought to Decatur today.
He leaves besides his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Daisy Watt of Decatur and Mrs. Minnie Lazell of Maroa and three sons, S.C. and Frank Gray of Decatur and W.N., Gray of Lane, Ill.
He enlisted in the 26th Ohio regiment shortly after the outbreak of the Civil war, and served until the close.
His wife is in a serious condition and probably will not live. The news is being kept from her to avoid the shock.
