Eliza Euphomia Reed was born in Medina Township, Feb 10, 1843. She was the daughter of Thomas B. and Frances E. Reed and was one of a family of six, all of whom, have preceded her in death. February 15, 1863 she was united in marriage to James Sylvester Preston of Roxbury, New York; who preceded her in death July 17, 1915. To this union nine children were born, two of them dying in infancy. Jennie Ermina and Meritt Eberly, two dying in maturity Mary Effie Cook, and Harriet Hazel Snyder, both of whom died in 1919. Five children are left to mourn the passing of a mother, beloved by all. Frances Emily Albright of Chillicothe, Angelina May Bristol of Peoria, Mrs. Bertha Irene Gill of Washburn, George Armand Preston of Chillicothe, Hiram Algernon Preston of Peoria. She leaves to mourn her death her five children, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren. In her life time she saw Peoria grow from a small village to its present proportions, also the using of a tallow candle fro light to the electric lights now in use. Ever ready to help a neighbor in need, she was indeed a friend. Finding her health breaking she was taken to the home of her daughter Bertha of Washburn. April 17th, 1926 were she was tenderly cared fro. On July 12th she was stricken with cerebro-paralysis from which she never recovered. She entered into her last rest January 25th, 1927 at 12:45 pm. Early in life she united with the Baptist Church at Union and remained a member until the church disbanded about twenty years ago. After this, failing health and distance prevented her attendance at any church. Services were held at one o'clock at the Baptist church in Chillicothe. Rev. Mrs. Raycroft officiating. She was laid to rest in the La Salle cemetery beside her husband and loved ones. Rest in Peace.
