Marian was united in marriage with Donald Bakken on April 21, 1962 at Moorhead. The couple resided in Moorhead and Fisher before making Brandon their permanent home in 1965. In addition to caring for her family, Marian was employed by the Bremer Bank for over 27 years. In 1993 she retired from her position at the bank and worked as a tax preparer for Chris Mitchell and Associated.
Marian was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing golf, reading, attending craft shows and tending her flower gardens. She loved animals but her family and their activities were her main focus. Being a part of her grandchildren's special events was especially important to Marian.
Marian died December 22, 1998 at her home in Brandon. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold and Gordon Stavang.
Surviving her are her husband Donald of Brandon; daughters: DeAnn and husband Eric Satterlie of Evansville; Kristi and husband Clem Roers of Chaska; three grandchildren: Brandyn and Brady Roers and Blake Satterlie; brother Wayne and wife Jan Stavang of Santa Clara, CA; three sisters: Elois and husband Ken Halverson of Bottineau, ND; Gladys and husband Lee Gausmel of Glendale, AZ; Arliss and husband Ernie Schack of Brooklyn Park.
Funeral services were held December 26, 1998 at Grace Lutheran Church of Brandon with Rev. Dennis Preston officiatin. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery with Robert Lanners, Dana Baker, Lynn Thompson, Gary Bakken, Jim Bakken and Chuck Quesnel serving as pallbearers.
