Death of Mrs. Ann Chappell Saturday Night.
The death of Mrs. Ann Chappell occurred last Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Staples on Wentworth Street this city after a long illness. Her age was 78 yrs, nine months and 10 days. Mrs Chappell was born in Kennebunkport and her life was passed there. She was the daughter of Ralph T. and Betsy Ferguson Jordan who are of colonial and revolutionary stock. The old Jordan home being the farm now owned and occupied by Mrs. Estelle Tatterson of this city as a summer home and being known as the Jordan farm.
Mrs. Chappell was the widow of the late Horace Chappell and her married life was passed like her girlhood in North Kennebunkport in the Chappell neighborhood as that section of the township is known. After the of her husband being in poor health she came to the city to live with her daughter.
The deceased was a Free Baptist and she took great interest as long as her health would permit in the work of the church, where she liked to busy herself helping others. While her death will bring sorrow to her relatives and friends, she lived out a ripe old age.
She leaves three sons, Willis W. of Kennebunkport, Charles H. of Lyman, George W. of Saco, one daughter Mrs. Joseph D. Staples of Biddeford, a brother, D.S.P. Jordan of Alfred, and one sister, Mrs. Augustus Hamilton of Sanford.
The funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the of her daughter 24 Wentworth street, conducted by Rev. Willis M. Davis of whose church she was a loved member.
