Son of Andrew Jackson Akers and Phoebe Absher

Married Angeline Lewis on Dec. 30, 1881 in Wythe County, Virginia.

Alex was a coal miner. He was good looking at 5'10" tall. He had dark brown hair and very dark blue "black" eyes. He had a dry wit and told good stories, especially ghost stories. He was unhappy in later years and rather cantankerous. He told his son, Lacy, that their last name was really Aker, not Akers.

CHILDREN:
Margaret Melinda Akers Snow 1883 - 1943
Ellis Akers 1886 – 1916
Dorcas Maiden Akers Hutcherson 1889 – 1924
Mary Lena Akers Nunn 1892 – 1971
Willie Maude Akers Gillespie 1895 – 1962
Lacy Robinson Akers 1897 – 1976
Alma Gay Akers Ellis 1901 – 1964

The children listed on the headstone he shares with his wife, Angeline, are their son, Ellis, and their granddaughter, Alma Louise Nunn. She is the daughter of Mary Lena Akers Nunn and William Dyer Nunn.

His death certificate says he was born in 1861. But he is 4 months old in his father's household on the 1860 census. So he had to have been born in 1860.
