Born Sept. 30, 1966 in Connersville, she was the daughter of Arlen and Julia McCarty Riggs of Connersville; both survive. She married Todd Simpson Sept. 13, 1997; he survives.
She was a 1985 graduate of Connersville High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Ball State University. She currently was taking classes to receive her certification as a school principal. She had been an elementary school teacher since 1990. She taught for 17 years at Orange Elementary School and the past 3 years at Eastview Elementary School. She was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Survivors in addition to her parents and husband include children, Hannah Nicole Simpson and Skylar Todd Simpson; grandmother, Margaret McCarty of Brookville; brother, Gregg (Cheryl) Riggs of Glenwood; nephew, Sam Riggs; nieces, Anne and Becca Riggs; father-in-law, Ron Simpson of Batesville; and sisters-in-law, Rhonda Shotwell, Pam Flodder and Beth Turner.
She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Joyce Simpson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home in Connersville with the Rev. Ellen Anderson and Pastor Phil Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nicole Simpson Scholarship Fund through the Fayette County Foundation.
