Funeral services for Johnie Stephens, age 84, of Yantis, will be conducted at Lake Fork Baptist Church, at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 2010, with Rev. Perry Crisp and Rev. David Smith officiating.


A Masonic graveside service will follow at Yantis Cemetery, with Jerry Williams, Robert Gaylor, Gary Moss, Jimmy Clyde Floyd, Jimmy Rogers and James Smith serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Winford Wilson, Phil Newby, Warren King, Bobby Ogle, Gordon Allen James Bramblett and the Light House Sunday School Class. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.


Johnie Stephens passed away Monday morning, May 24, 2010 at his residence.


He was born in Yantis on July 20, 1925, the son of Ruben Stephens and Artie (Wright) Stephens.


He married El Darris Graham in Rockwall on July 20, 1949; she survives.


Mr. Stephens was owner/president of N. L. Schutte Foundation Drilling and a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy.


Other survivors include: daughter, Valinda Stephenson and husband, Don; son, Johnnie Clayton Stephens; two sisters, Dot Yarbrough and Jean Tullis; brother, Elzie Stephens, all of Yantis; grandchildren, Matthew Stephenson, Jonathan Stephenson, Marcus Stephenson and Christopher Locke; great-grandchildren, Dominick Stephenson, Ranie Stephenson, Destiny Stephenson, Savannah Stephenson, Dakota Stephenson and Ashton Locke.


He was preceded in death by brother, Ruben Gail Stephens and grandson, Nick Kelly.
