Mrs. Bessie Gillispie Saunders, age 72 of Read Mountain Rd., Roanoke, died Monday afternoon, October 19, 1992, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bessie was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Daleville, and was particularly active in the choir and the United Methodist Women. She was retired from Johnson-Carper Furniture Company in Roanoke. She is survived by her husband, C. Terry Saunders; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona S. and Terry N. Tolley, Roanoke; Rebecca S. and Alan R. Collins, Vinton; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel P. and Thelma Gillispie; and four grandchildren, Brian and Lauren Tolley, Bradley and Christopher Collins. A private graveside service will be held for the family. A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening, October 21, 1992, at 7:30 at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Daleville with the Rev. Dr. Gene M. Williams officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark's United Methodist Church Choir, P.O. Box 186, Daleville, Va. 24083. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Rader Funeral Home in Troutville on Tuesday, October 20, 1992.
