Howard "Smithy" Farmer, 71, of Kosse, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at a local hospital. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Union Cemetery with the Rev. Billie Walker officiating. The family will receive visitors 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.

Smithy, as everyone knew him, was born in Durango, Texas, to the late G.L. and Irene Farmer. He worked for many years on cotton gins and driving cattle trucks. He retired from Young Brothers Construction, where he was a truck superintendent. On Sept. 16, 1983, Smithy married Betty Allen. He will always be in our hearts, loved, and missed.

Smithy was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Farmer; sister, Jayne Roming; and a nephew, Jay Farmer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Betty; daughter, Jodie; grandchildren, Hailie and Torie; son, Neil Farmer; brothers, Joe Farmer and wife, Rendy, of Marlin, and Bud Farmer and wife, Magdaline, of Gilmer; step-sons, Matt Nehring and wife, Buffy, of Lorena, and Paul Nehring and wife, Barbara, of West Jordan, Utah; step-daughter, Kellie Nehring and husband, Scott, of Hewitt; step-grandchildren, Kaleb and Keeli Nehring of Lorena; close family friend, Thomas York of Marlin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
