Tobacco Manufacturing Business - James Frederick Kerner (1871 - 1948) and two brother-in-laws James Phillip Adkins (1859 - 1943) and Henry E Shore (1855 - 1919) were partners in a tobacco manufacturing business. The firm name was Shore, Adkins & Co. Their factory was on the west side of Salem Street, adjacent to the home place of Dr Elias Kerner, which was a large brick residence on Salem Road south of its juncture with Salisbury Rd. That residence now (2002) is the home of his grandson, Edgar E Shore, present mayor of Kernersville.
