Mrs. Powell was born in Anderson County, S. C., on June 27, 1905, and was the daughter of the late Robert R. and Lula Jones Barnett. She was a member of the First Assembly of God. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her son, James N. Powell, who died January 12, 1968.
Surviving are her husband Thomas Albert Powell of the home; four daughters, Mrs. C. S. (Dorothy) McClusky of Wilmington, Mrs. Glen T. (Audrey) Sellars of Wilmington, Mrs. Herbert W. (Mildred) Crowther of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Miss Betty Joyce Powell of the home; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the First Assembly of God with the Rev. Wayne D. Barkley officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Casketbearers will be Michael Crowther, Jerry Young, Arley Day, Henry Powell, J. H. Kelly, and Lynwood R. Batson.
Honorary casketbearers will be William Landen, James Bridgers, Alex Holland, Dr. Robert Smalley, Dr. Terry Withers, Robert McAtee, Ray Marett, Manley Moore, and Robert Clary.
The family will receive friends at Coble's Oleander Chapel from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and at other times will be at the residence of Mrs. Powell's daughter Mrs. Audrey Sellars.
