Mr. Thomas A. Powell, 93, of Wilmington, died Friday, July 16, 1993, at the Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center
Mr. Powell was born April 14, 1900, at Danburg, Georgia, the son of the late William Thomas and Alice Andrews Powell. He was a member of the Long Leaf Baptist Church, a veteran of WWI, serving in the U.S. Army and had retired in 1956, from the Wilmington Shipyard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vermell Barnett Powell; a son, James Powell; and a daughter, Joyce Powell.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy McClusky and Audrey Sellars of Wilmington, and Mildred Crowther of Daytona Beach, Florida; three sisters, Nealie Wilson, Mayzelle Wilson, and Belle Powell, all of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 1993, at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Eugene Ridley.
The family will receive friends at the Coble-Ward-Smith Funeral Service Chapel today from 4 to 5 p.m.
