Thomas was the son of John and Charlotte Arthur of Franklin County, VA. He was a Confederate soldier in the 42nd Virginia Infantry Company K and was killed in action near Winchester, VA shortly after he went to war in 1862.
His family tried to get information about him and when his mother died in 1882 she still did not know if he was killed or where he was buried. The information is now available but his grave isn't marked.
He never married and had no children. His family is buried in the Arthur Family cemetery in Franklin County, VA.
