Robert F.M. Duniway was born October 16, 1849 in Florence, Pike County, Illinois. Robert's parents were Benjamin Duniway and Mary Maria Moore Todd. After the deaths of Benjamin Duniway and Maria's Todd spouses they married in Pike County, Illinois 1 September 1846.
In 1852 the Duniway family joined the wagons heading for Oregon with their children. Maria died along the Platt River from Cholera June 3, 1852.
Son Robert was three years old and continued to make the difficult trip to Oregon with his father. They arrived in Oregon in the fall of 1852.
The Duniway family settled near Needy, Oregon.
Father Benjamin died in 1856 when Robert was seven years old. Robert went to live with his sister Nancy Duniway Engle and her husband Henry Engle in the Molalla, Oregon area.
In 1870 Robert lived in Klickitat, Washington Territory carrying mail. He later moved back to the Molalla area. He died February 5, 1873 and is buried in the Rock Creek cemetery.
