Obituary of Florence Agnes{ Mitchell} Witten
The Elden Advertiser Thursday October 30,1919

Mrs. Elgan Witten committed suicide Friday morning about 11 O'clock by shooting herself in the head with a shot-gun at Her home½ mile east of Milldale Church. The body was found by Mr. Witten who had gone to Etterville to ship a box to a daughter in Kansas City about 10 O'clock and returned home after the tragedy had taken place.

... The preparation for the act seemed to have been made hurriedly. She had finished a large washing, hung it out and put out the fire. Nothing was left to indicate why the rash act was committed. The body was found on the bed up stairs with the single barrel shot gun near. Ira Clark, a neighbor and Mrs. Gartin both herd the report of a gun between 10 and 11 O'clock but did not remember the exact time not knowing that there was any thing wrong.
A coroner's jury was summoned and gave a verdict that death resulted from a gun shot wound inflicted by her own hand.

Mrs. Witten , formerly Miss Florence Mitchell, was married to Elgan Witten June 6,1902. At Mound City, Kansas. She was born July 25. 1883. She leaves five living children , the eldest just 15 years old.

Interment was made in the Mount Pleasant cemetery Sunday.

(Apparently Mount Pleasant is another name for Spring Garden cemetery)
