Laura Bullard(1926 - 2010)

Laura M. Bullard, 83, of Mount Vernon, Ind., passed away on May 21, 2010, at the Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Laura was born in Posey County, Ind., on Aug. 20, 1926, one of three daughters of Lester and Lela Cox.
Laura graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1944. She was a remarkable mother who raised 10 children by herself after her husband, Robert, passed away in 1963.

She loved working in her flower gardens, being in politics and sharing the stories of Mount Vernon and Posey County. She also loved reading and enjoyed traveling and watching birds through her window. Laura was elected Mount Vernon clerk-treasurer in 1971 and served for 24 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to visit many of her children and grandchildren.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. Bullard; and her sister, Wilma Lengelesen.

She is survived by her sister, Mary McMurray of Noblesville, Ind.; 10 children, Diane Campbell of Marysville, Calif., Patricia Duthie of Van Vleck, Texas, Sandy Bullard of Enfield, Ill., Jane (Fred) Johnson of Rockford, Ill., Robert (Sally) Bullard of Mount Vernon, Randy Bullard of Frankfort, Ill., Amy McDermott of Claremont, Calif., Brock (Therese) Bullard of Seattle, Tracy Buck of Mount Vernon and Megan Bullard of Emerald Isle, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, Carol La Barre, Andrea Petersen, Heather Maher, Shawn Duthie, Jennifer Goodman, Kyle and Brock Johnson, Zach Johnson, Robert, Jennifer, Marisa, and Joseph Bullard, Leslie McDermott, Laura Phillips, Frank and Mary McDermott, Megan and Dylan Bullard; 16 great-grandchildren, Angelina, Clarissa and Jeremy La Barre, Allie, James and Ryan Petersen, JC and Noah Maher, Lauryn, Gavin, Jackson and Jillian Goodman, Ella and Max Johnson, Robert Phillips and Shane McDermott.

The family wants to thank the staff of Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they extended to Laura and her family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Vernon, 120 E. 6th St., with Pastor Monica Gould officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St. in Mount Vernon, and on Monday, May 24, 2010, from 10 A.M. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 50 E. 91st St.
