Charles Merritt, 87, and early-day resident of Kalispell, died Saturday in Tacoma, Wash.

Mr. Meritt was born in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1869 and came to Kalispell in 1910, where he resided until 1914. He then homesteaded in the Garson Gulch area near Polson. His first wife (Hannah) died in 1921 and in 1926 he moved to Seattle where he had resided since.

He is survived by his second wife, Helen; four sons, Wallace of Hot Springs, Alvin of Polson, Charles of Puyallup, Wash., and Harold of Tacoma; a daughter, Mrs. Clara Halladay of Tacoma.

Funeral services at Retz Chapel, Polson. Masonic gravesite rites and burial at Lakeview Cemetery, Polson.
