Lawrence Monroe Gamble and his twin brother Matthew were born in August 1885 in Missouri to Joseph Webster and Mary Ann (Miller) Gamble.

Lawrence's father, Joseph, was the orphaned son of George Francis Gamble (1836-1862), who was killed at the Battle of Iuka (Mississippi) during the American Civil War.

Lawrence first married Rosie L. Harper in 1912 and had three daughters: Lottie, Blanche, and Iva. Lottie died shortly after her first birthday. Lawrence's wife, Rosie, died in 1920 of tuberculosis.

Lawrence married his second wife, Harriet Miller Gamble, in 1923. They had 15 children together and celebrated their golden anniversary in 1973.

Lawrence died in 1974. Harriet died in 1978. They are buried at New Diggins Cemetery, in Washington County, Missouri.
