was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on September 9, 1929 the son of the late Bid and Ettie Mae Mitchell Pickens.

On April 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Helen Louise Parrish, who survives.

Mr. Pickens worked for the Hardin County Board of Education as a Custodian and was a member of the Nixon Pentecostal Church. He was a hard worker all of his life.

Mr. Pickens departed this life on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the age of 80 years, 8 months, 12 days.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Pickens is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Thomas of Savannah, Tennessee; 3 grandchildren, Don Casteel, Keith Casteel, and Robert Adams; 4 great-grandchildren, Alisha Casteel, Andrea Casteel, Justin Adams, and Tyler Adams; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Macie Casteel and Julianna Casteel; 3 brothers, Hassel Pickens and Lige Pickens both of Savannah, Tennessee, Melvin Pickens of Hammond, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ross and Curt Pickens.
