Joseph Edward Asay was born Saturday, June 12, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Verl and LaVaun Asay, and spent most of his life in the Taylorsville area.

Joe graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1972 and from Salt Lake Community College. He also attended the University of Utah.

Joe married the love of his life and his best friend, Arlene Wolf, on November 14, 1975, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They resided on Quailbrook Drive in Taylorsville.

Joe was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He faithfully served in many callings in his church including: cub master, young men's president, varsity coach, counselor in the bishopric, high counselor, high priest group leader, and physical facilities assistant.

He was known to many in his family and around the neighborhood as "Conductor Joe" because of his great love for trains. He was lovingly called "Papa Choo Choo" by his grandsons, and with the help of his family and good friends he built two trains for them to enjoy together.

Joe was employed by the University of Utah Medical Center for over twenty years and worked with many wonderful people. He had the ability to put a smile on many faces with his sense of humor and will be greatly missed.

Joe passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was survived by his wife, Arlene, daughter Nichol (Shawn), son Tyson (Kidist), grandsons Preston, Daxton (father: Joseph Blake), and Keenan, sisters, Kaye Baldwin and Sharon Ray. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Verla Jean Anderson.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. in the Taylorsville Tenth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 4950 South 1950 West in Taylorsville. A viewing was held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West) in Taylorsville, and Monday at the Church from 10:30 until 11:40 a.m.
Joe was laid to rest following the conclusion of the Funeral Services at Valley View Memorial Park in West Valley City.
