Mrs. Borell was born March 15, 1914, in Dalzell to Emilio and Cesiri (Manni) Manfredini. She married Anton "Tony" Borell on June 4, 1938, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Dalzell.
She attended Dalzell Grade School and Hall High School. She worked on the farm in rural Granville, raising and milking cows. She worked at several area factories including Sampsel's, Toluca Suit factory, Peru Garter Factory and Overall Factory. Later she worked for Hospital Radiology Services, Spring Valley.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Mother Cabrini Sodality and Crazy 8's Bunco Club. In addition to loving her family and friends, Helen loved cooking and baking delicious bread and she enjoyed traveling, camping, playing solitaire and working crossword puzzles. In her younger years she, along with family and friends, would walk from Dalzell to Spring Valley to attend Sunday Mass.
Survivors are one daughter, Carol Safranski of rural Granville; two grandsons, Randy (Shelley) Safranski of Granville and Jeff (Ruth) Safranski of Peru; two great-grandchildren, Heather and Mitchell Safranski of Peru; two sisters-in-law, Stella Manfredini of Wisconsin, formerly of Dalzell, and Ida Borell of Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 4, 1998; two brothers, Joseph and Aurelio Manfredini; four sisters; and seven brothers-in-law, Lena Manfredini, Emma (Louis) Piano, Irma (Felix) Pederzani, Mary (Delmo) Marchesi, Peter Borell, Albert Borell, Dominick Venardi and Emmett Hartman; one sister-in-law, Marie Venardi Hartman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Maggie Borell; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed for Masses or the donor's choice.
