Jane Drummond was born in 1832 in Delaware Co, IN, youngest daughter of Benjamin and Eunice Berry Drummond. In 1840, the family moved to Coles Co, IL (the part which later became Cumberland Co, IL). Jane was married about 1853 to William Peterson and they had children: Mary Ellen Peterson (Goodwin)(Thomas), Sarah Elizabeth Peterson(Rice)(Wells), John William Peterson, and Aaron F. Peterson. Jane's husband William served in the Civil War, and after his return, the family moved to Iowa for a time (where son Aaron was born). Jane and William Peterson divorced about 1870. Jane remarried about 1875 to widower Samuel Miller who died in 1884. Jane lived in Cumberland/Coles county through the early 1890's, then in July of 1893, entered land in Ozark Co, MO. In 1910, she was found living with her son Aaron in Cleveland Twp, Canadian Co, OK. Her place of residence at the time of her obituary says she was living with her son Aaron in Lexington, Cleveland Co, OK.
Jane died November 3rd, 1913 in Mattoon, Coles Co, Illinois while on a visit to her grandson Jesse Goodwin (along with her daughter Mollie Peterson Goodwin Thomas of Blairstown, Missouri, mother of Jesse). The newspaper article telling of her death says she died of acute indigestion and heart disease. The article also notes that the funeral services would be at his home at 605 Dewitt Ave in Mattoon and the burial would be at Drummond Cemetery.
Jane's son John William Peterson became a minister and died in Nelson Co, KY in 1942. Daughter Mary Ellen Peterson (Goodwin)(Thomas) died in Blairstown, MO in 1921. Daughter Sarah Elizabeth Peterson (Rice)(Wells)(Rawls) was last heard of in 1900 in Springfield, Illinois; her final resting place is unknown. Son Aaron and his wife later settled in Longmont, Boulder Co, Colorado until his death in 1934.
