Floy Caldwell Hines, 98, formerly of Walden Circle in Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, May 14, 2010. Floy was the daughter of the late Viddie Stewart and James L. Caldwell, the widow of the late Bomar L. Hines and the mother of the late Mary Jean Hines Stubbs.

Floy was an avid gardener, a loving and compassionate elementary school teacher who went to work for SC Department of Social Services, assisting in the placement of children to foster and adoptive families. She was also the only woman to ever be voted "Man of the Year" for the State of South Carolina. Floy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a member of Fairforest Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hines is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Hall and Lucille Humphries, both of Spartanburg, and Ina Wyman of Murray, UT; four grandsons, William P. (Pete) Stubbs, Jr. of Tryon, NC, Judson Stubbs, Mark Stubbs, and Bomar (Bo) Stubbs, all of Spartanburg, SC; two great-grandsons, Zachary Mittag and Asher Lane Stubbs; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews whom she also loved dearly.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Joe Dempsey.
