William Belford was born in Virgina (now West Virginia), then by 1850 the family relocated to Vinton Co., Ohio.

Here William and Tacy Cozad were married in 1864. Their children are William R., Franklin F., and Martha A. Belford.

Tacy passed away in 1869, and William was married in 1870 to her sister, Mary L. Cozad. Their children are Matilda and Alice. Alice died at age one.

William and Mary eventually moved to Joplin, Missouri, where he passed away in 1915. Mary survived him only a year and a half, passing away in Vinton Co., Ohio.
