Canton – Gertrude B. Evans, 89, of 414 N. 1st Avenue, Apt. #203, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Sunset Manor, the last surviving child of Meredith and Gretchen (Bybee) Standard.
She was born on February 12, 1921 in Fiatt.
Gertrude married Harvey M. Evans on February 4, 1939 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1981.
She is survived by two children Diantha "Kay" Evans of Canton, and Rev. Harvey J. (Rev. Connie) Evans of Macomb, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews to whom she was a loving and caring aunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Harold Standard and Meredith Standard, Sr., three sisters Shirley Harper, Mildred Fisher, and Nellie Mae Nebergall, and one nephew Nicholas Standard.
Gertrude most recently worked as a Certified Aid at the Nursing Center of Canton and Sunset Manor. She had also previously worked at Denny's Dry Cleaning and Ludlums Grocery. She was a member of Trinity Fellowship of Canton and Eastern Star.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at White Chapel Memory Gardens. Revs. Harvey and Connie Evans will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Mulligan Fund Run, c/o CEFCU. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
