Luther E. Amos
Luther E. Amos, 82, Cheshire, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2011, in Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio.
He was born July 29, 1928, to the late Pearl Alva and Marie Scott Amos in Cheshire.
He attended Faith Valley Community Church in Gallipolis; was an avid outdoorsman and gardener, who enjoyed sharing his produce with others, loved spending time with his family and listening to gospel singing and "old time" preaching.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jana Dickerson Amos, whom he married September 24, 1952, in Sandyhook, Ky.; four daughters, Faith J. Bradbury, Charity (Ray) Cox, and Gloria (John) Westfall, all of Cheshire; Hope (Samuel) Hurlow, Gallipolis; two sons, Luther (Linda) Amos, Cheshire and John (Melissa) Amos, Gallipolis; eleven grandchildren, Phillip Bradbury, Michael Bradbury, Brian Bradbury, Ray Cox, Randy Cox, Joanna Wilson, Adrian Monesi, Cory Westfall, Shasta Blankenship, Seth Amos and Bryce Amos and twelve great grandchildren; five sisters, Jennie McNeal, Springfield, Ohio; Lavada Barcus, Ga.; Lyvonnia (Roy) Boggs, Middleport, Ohio; Lydia (Joe) Chestnut, London, Ohio; Oretha Rider, Gallipolis; Maxine (David) Harner, Albany, Ohio; brother, Galen Amos, Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and James Amos; grandson, James "Jimmy" Hurlow; three sisters, Tracy Delozier, Mary Amos and Deloris Amos; two brothers, Bruce Rogers and Alva Amos, and a son-in-law, Phillip Bradbury, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2011, in the Old Kyger Free Will Baptist Church in Cheshire. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis on Wednesday, March 16 from 6-8 p.m.
