Monnie was born on May 15, 1947, in Waco, Texas to Otis Baker Smith and Dovie Lorene Smith and raised in Keene, TX. He was born three minutes before his twin brother Ronnie Wayne Smith. He also has two sisters, Hazel Lorene Perciful and Imogene Lazelle Jackson and a late brother, Otis Eugene Smith. He then moved to California in 1965 and married Shari Lyn Flanigan on March 23, 1968. Monnie was a proud dad to his four children, Monte Wayne Smith and his spouse Kara Burkman, Cory Daniel Smith and his spouse Jessica Smith, Daryl Eugene Smith and his partner Jeanette Ocampo and Heather RayLyn Martin (Smith) and her spouse Rob Martin. He loved camping with his family, fishing with his brother, traveling, and driving classic cars. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War in 1969-1971. He served as a VA representative at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda. He was instrumental in building the Bryant-Glen Sports Complex and was involved in Yucaipa Little League for many years. He adored his grandchildren; Monte Wayne Smith Jr., Alicia Michelle Smith, Brayden Kyle Smith and his step grandchildren; Nathan Edward Burkman, Hailee Renee Burkman, Sheridan Kendall Martin and Jordan Kaylee Martin. He also cherished his nephews and nieces; Ronnie Jr., Vance, Troy, Tiffany, Gary, Byron, Joy, Lisa, Randy, Spencer, Kip, Daron, Jane, Robin and Ricky. He moved to Jefferson, TX in 2001 and married Barbara June Brazier on February 7, 2002. He moved to Arlington, TX in 2007.

Monnie was known for his kind heart, sense of humor, and always wanting to be the center of attention. He loved his family and friends with all his heart, and he always knew how to make anyone smile. He was a child of God, he committed his life to Jesus, and for that, we know he will spend eternity in heaven.
