Julia Ann Floyd Britton was born in Barbour Co. Alabama, the daughter of Theophilus Offie Floyd Jr. & Elizabeth Bounds. Theophilus was killed in the Civil War from wounds received in the Battle of Chickamauga on Sept. 20, 1863, and afterwards, Elizabeth moved the family to Bossier Parish, Louisiana along with her brothers, sisters and other related families. Later, Julia Ann married Benjamin Franklin Britton on March 3, 1876 in Panola Co, Texas and they raised a family and lived in Panola County, Texas where he was from.
Back in Louisiana, Julia Ann's mother, Elizabeth, had re-married to a widower named Abner Wood in 1871. Later around 1880 they had moved to Athens, Texas. As of 1891 per a letter written by Abner's granddaughter, Ella Brockman, Abner Wood and Elizabeth were still in Texas. At some point (probably after 1900) Elizabeth and possibly Abner as well returned to Louisiana. After Abner Wood died, Elizabeth moved in to live with her brother, Stephen Henry Bounds who had also lost his wife Narcissa Lott Bounds in 1892.
In Panola County, Texas, Julia Ann received many visits and letters from Both her mother as well as from her closest cousin living in Louisiana, George Albert Bounds who was the youngest son of Stephen Henry Bounds. Many of those letters to Julia Ann still exists today. Some of them contained dates of Births and deaths of family relations and ancestors.
There are also many letters written by Julia Ann giving first-hand accounts of the hard farming life she and Frank Britton were living in Panola county, Texas in those early days.
