She was a native of Cheokee County, but had lived on a farm in Union County between 1927-1976 where she and her husbad Ed Hughes raised their six children. She was a homemaker, a member of the Nola Baptist Church and a member of te Order of Eastern Star, Nota Chapter #471 where she was in good standing at the time of her death.
