The Savannah papers announce the sudden death of Mr Langdon Bowie, Sr, agent of the Equitable Life Insurance Company of New York, who fell dead in his office in that city on Wednesday, from disease of the heart. Mr Bowie had complained of feeling unwell in the morning before going to his office, and he had hardly entered upon the duties of the day before he was suddenly called from this life. The deceased was a member of a large and highly respected family of Bowies in Abbeville District, S.C.
Previous to the war, he moved to Charleston, and was for some time in this city engaged in mercantile pursuits. When the war ceased, he became identified with the life insurance business in Savannah as agent of the company above mentioned.
His friends will be glad to learn that he was insured in two companies - in the Equitable for $5,000 and in Universal Life of New York for $10,000. Mr Bowie's remains were forwarded to his afflicted wife and family, who reside in Rome, GA.
