Russell Howard Griggs, 79, of Amarillo, died Friday, May 7, 2010.

Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Private memorial services will be conducted in Austin at a later date.

Russell was born March 24, 1931, to Howard and Christine Griggs of Amarillo. His grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. N.S. Griggs and Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Russell, all of Amarillo. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in Nashville, Tenn., and the University of Texas at Austin. Russell served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955. He worked as a social worker at the Texas Department of Human Resources.

The family would like to thank the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home and Vista Care Hospice in Temple for their excellent and compassionate care of Russell in the past few years.

Survivors include a sister, Neilyn Griggs Maloney of Austin.
