Abram was the youngest of four sons of Zelda Smolofasky and Lobe Bergman. Lobe Bergman died in Europe on April 18, 1900. Their son, Sam, applied for a passport on 15 Jan 1921 stating he was returning to Lithuania to get his aged and widowed mother and bring her to the US. Zelda left her home in Raseiniai, Lithuania and arrived with son, Sam, at Ellis Island aboard the Rotterdam on 14 May 1921. She lived with Sam and his family until her death in 1928.

Abram arrived at Ellis Island aboard the Adriatic on 23 Apr 1909. He moved to Atlanta where he was the Proprietor of Exelento Medicine Company. His three brothers were also in the business with him. In February 1917, he married Gussie Schine.

Abe died on 4 May 1917 in Atlanta. Gussie was pregnant with Abe's son and had no means of support, so she moved in with her parents in Savannah, Georgia. Their son, Abram Joseph Berman, was born on 25 Dec 1917, but sadly died of influenza and pneumonia at the age of 2 years on 23 Feb 1920. Gussie married Mesod Robert Murray Bono in 1921, and they had two sons.
