John Alfred Iden was born near Mt. Pulaski, Logan Co. Illinois, on January 23, 1862, and departed this life at a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at 8:25 o'clock Sunday night October 16, 1932, aged 70 years, 8 months and 23 days. Bronchial Pneumonia was the cause of death.
John A. Iden was a son of James M. and Eliza Iden. His father will be remembered by the older residents as a well known Mt. Pulaski veteran of the Civil War.
Mr. Iden was united in marriage with Miss Anna Wisenart on April 16, 1882. To this union were born six children, two daughters and four sons, namely: Mrs Maude Delbert, Mrs. Quinnie McFarland, Norvin, Veral, John and Herman Iden, all residing in St. Louis, except Quinnie wife of Roy McFarland, who lives in Omaha, Nebraska. His wife and all the children were at his bedside at the time of his passing.
In the year 1908 Mr. Iden united with the Christian church, and lived an honorable and upright life. He was kind and loving to his family, and was well liked by many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Iden celebrated their golden wedding anniversary April 16, 1932, when all their children, grandchildren and a host of friends were present.
For many years Mr. Iden farmed southwest of Mt. Pulaski on the old Wm. Munce place. Finally Mr. Iden and family moved to the vicinity of Carrolton, Greene Co. and remained there until his health began to fail, and he was unable to continue the pursuit of farming. His children persuaded him to give up farming and move to St. Louis, and two years ago, Mr Iden, wife, and sons John and Vearl, moved to that city. Besides his wife and children decedent is also survived by two brothers, Clarence Iden, of Niantic, Illinois, Edwin Iden of St. louis, Mo. and one sister, Mrs Flora Crissman, of Wichita, Kansas. There are also seven grandchildren.
The remains were brought to Mt. Pulaski and funeral services held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, October 19th, at the Christian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev J. Wayne Staley. The interment was made in Mt. Pulaski cemetery. The burial rites were in charge of Logan Camp No. 154, Modern Woodmen of America, of Mt. Pulaski, of which decedent was a member.
