The Tipton Conservative, April, 1938
Lloyd Achey, aged 33, well known Cedar county young man of the Cedar Bluff community, ended his life by hanging himself in a barn early Sunday morning on the farm of Clarence Kreiter, on the Eldridge road near Davenport where he had been employed as a farm hand since January 15th.
Coroner Skelley of Scott county, who was called to make investigation, declared he was unable to find a motive for the act. The man had apparently been in good health, the coroner stated. Mr. Achey had apparently ended his life about 2:00 a.m. Sunday, and his body was discovered by Mr. Kreiter at 8 o'clock Sunday morning in the hay loft.
Lloyd Achey was born in Cedar county, Iowa, near Cedar Bluff, May 3rd, 1905, the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Achey. He attended the local schools and grew to manhood where he was well known. Most of his life was spent in that vicinity with the exception of two years in Minnesota, and the last four months on the Kreiter farm near Davenport. He was a member of the Moose lodge of Tipton for some years.
He passed from this life Sunday morning, April 24th, 1938, at the age of 32 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Andrew, and Arthur V. Achey.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Achey, one sister, Mrs. Grace Wehde; three brothers, Earl Achey of Mechanicsville, Edward Achey of Bennett, and DeLois Achey of Cedar Rapids; his fiancee Miss Margaret Braet of Davenport; his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John Achey of Cedar Bluff, two nieces, Emogene and Joyce Wehde, one nephew Roland Achey, a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services were held at the Cedar Bluff church Tuesday afternoon April 26th, 1938, with the Rev. Louis H. Gunnemann of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church of Tipton officiating. Interment was made in the west Cedar Bluff cemetery.
