Funeral services for Mr. John H. Blakley, 75, a pioneer citizen of Scott County, were held Thursday, November 25, 1 p.m. from the Low Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Jeffers and Rev. Glen Edwards officiating.Oneida Lodge No. 695 F&AM conducted the Masonic service at the grave. Interment followed in the Carson Memorial Park. West and Son in charge of arrangements. Masons served as pall bearers. Honorary pall bearers were R. H. Troxel, Earl Cordell, Willard Murphy, Jess Blakley, George Thompson, Herbert McDonald.Mr. Blakley, a widely-known and well-liked resident of Scott County, died Tuesday morning, November 23 when his car plunged over a steep embankment on New River hill, not far from his home in the Low Gap Community.A heavy blanket of fog covered the area at 3:30 Tuesday morning when Mr. Blakley, an active outdoorsman, left his home to go deer hunting. The accident was first discovered at 11:00 the same morning. Mr. Blakley, a member of the Low Gap Baptist Church and Oneida Lodge No. 695 F&AM, served as lumber inspector for the Gennett Lumber Co. for nearly fifty years.He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Claude Jeffers, Helenwood, Tenn., Mrs. Clifton Byrd, Oneida, Tenn., Mrs. Jerry Reid, Chattanooga, Tenn.; 4 sons, Clendon Blakley, Oneida, Tenn., Norvan Blakley, Clinton, Tenn., Alton Blakley, Somerset, Ky., and Arvis Blakley, Huntsville, Tenn.; 5 sisters, Martha Salling, Chattanooga, Tenn., Nellie Webb, Sergent, Ky., Nannie Webb, Kona, Ky., Rebecca Strunk, Lebanon, Ohio, Jicy Brogan, Louisville, Ky.; 4 brothers, Wendel Blakley, West Point, Ky., Alonzo Blakley, Lebanon, Ohio, G.W. Blakley, Chattanooga, Tenn., James Mathew Phillips, Nashville, Tenn.; 24 grand-children; 1 great grandchild.
