In Travis County he leased land for eighteen years before he moved to Kenedy. He was born in Töreboda, Västergötland, in 1871. His parents, Carl and Charlotta Gustafson, were farmers and among six siblings who grew up in the home, two brothers, Sigfrid and Albin Gustafson, are living in the Kenedy colony.
He married Minnie Carlson in 1896. She was born in Balaryd, Småland, in 1874, the daughter of Carl and Dorothea Israelson who were farmers. She came to America in 1893, and first lived in Decker, Travis County, Texas. The children of this family are: Arthur, 1897, Elmer, 1898, Elsie, 1900, Selma, 1902, Laura, 1904, Fred, 1908, and Louis, 1910. Mrs. Gustafson has two sisters and two brothers in Texas, and one sister and one brother in Sweden.
